  • Vacation Safety Tips

Vacation is a time to relax and have fun.  Preparing for a family trip requires a lot of planning.  Planning can decrease the chances of becoming a victim of a crime.  It is best for you and your family to do all you can to blend in with the crowd.

Here are some suggestions for keeping you and your family safe when planning your next trip:

    1. Before you go, clean out your wallet or purse; take only essential credit cards.
    2. Carry your purse close to your body, or your wallet in an inside front pocket.
    3. Pack as lightly as possible.  Lots of heavy bags will slow you down and make you more vulnerable.
    4. Expensive, designer luggage can attract unneeded attention to your belongings.
    5. Carry-on anything you may need or is of value (i.e, medication or jewellery).
    6. Don’t display expensive jewellery, cameras, bags and other valuable items.
    7. Stick to well-lighted, well-travelled streets at all times.
    8. Always lock your car and leave valuables out of sight, preferably locked in the trunk.
    9. Don’t leave jewellery, money or other items laying around the hotel room when you go out.  Lock them in the room or hotel safe.
    10. Make sure rooms are securely locked and chains fastened whenever possible.  Do not leave pool keys lying out at the pool.
    11. Know who is knocking before opening the room door.
    12. Always lock the door when you are in the room.

I hope these tips will help you to remain safe while you are on vacation.
